What is Presentation Virtualization?
Presentation Virtualization is a relatively new term used to describe a technology that have been available for more than ten years. Today,
presentation virtualization is used to describe a feature of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 known as Terminal Services, and was recently
renamed to Remote Desktop Services in the upcoming Windows Server 2008 R2 release.
Terminal Services/Remote Desktop Services is a component of Windows Server that allows multiple users to connect to a server PC and receive
a desktop experience. Since multiple users are connecting to the same server, the administrator only needs to install the software to be
used by the end users once. This dramatically decreases application deployment time, as well as centralizes the administration of the
machines and applications. It also allows older PCs and thin-client machines to be used in order to run more modern software, since local
processing power is not used in order to run the applications.
